Dancing with the Local Stars

Dear Friends and Clients,

If you have not seen me in a poster at your local coffee shop or whizzing by on the side of a transit bus, let me be the first share that I have been chosen as a dancer in the Dancing with the Local Stars fundraiser for the Fort Vancouver Trust.

A little about why I find this important…

When I first graduated from NYU and ventured into the world of business ownership, I worked as Artistic Director of Bolder Moves Dance Center in Boulder, Colorado. We offered a choreography workshop to local dancers in which we gave critique and rehearsal space to local choreographers. This workshop culminated in a performance. After the show a guest artist teaching at Naropa University made the comment that we were “community builders”.

Still wanting to be considered an “artist” I was bothered by the lack of enthusiasm for the artistic work. Looking back I now realize what a very large compliment that actually was. Having been through a few hard knocks and now the mother of two spectacular boys I understand that in the grand scheme very little else matters. Community is where we find strength and support, joy and health. I also learned that a community needs places to gather, work and create in order to thrive.

A little about the Fort Vancouver Trust…

Besides being a National Historic Site and the root of so much history, the Grounds managed by the Fort Vancouver National Trust creates space where our community comes together, celebrates, remembers, ties the knot, educates as well as supports our family’s, children and businesses.

The Fort Vancouver National Trust is working to procure and maintain, what is for this community, a corner stone for its ability to thrive and a foundation for further economic growth. Lets work together to support this treasure.

A little about how you can help…

In addition to supporting such a fundamental piece of our community by attending or donating to this event, you will also be supporting my efforts to meet my commitments and goals as a “Local Dancer”. Please come out on the evening of September 6th and cheer me on as I strut my stuff (and my growing belly) along with the eight other local business owners. It should be a fabulous night of fun and community! Should you be unable to attend please consider making a donation to the trust in my name.

You can do so on the Fort Vancouver National Trust Website; www.fortvan.org/dwtls.html or you can return the enclosed envelope with a check to me or via the mail to the Fort Vancouver National Trust.

All my thanks,

Katie Atkins-Castillo
